Access control at the mall

Access Control & Identity Management

Boomgate Systems has been involved in manufacturing and supplying solutions to the retail industry for over two decades. Just over 20 years ago we saw the introduction of Pay-on-Foot (POF) parking management systems. This meant better control for revenue collection and more money in the pockets of shopping centres.

This was the beginning of a big change to the parking access control industry. Equipment needed to be more reliable as breakdowns meant lack of control and loss of revenue. Traffic barriers also had to be more intelligent than before.

Boomgate Systems developed the Boomgate Systems Revenue Barrier. The Revenue Barrier was replaced with an even better barrier when more security was required with the Scorpion Spike Barrier. Boomgate System’s Scorpion Spike Barrier was and is still, the barrier of choice. The company has Spike Barriers installed at The Mall of Africa, The Mall of the South and Cresta Centre Festival Mall, to name a few.

The Scorpion Spike Barrier comes with a patented Emergency Raise Trigger Input as well as Tamper Alarm Outputs. They offer protection from both directions for entry and exit and are known for durability and reliability with a 100% duty cycle.

Criminals also became more intelligent when targeting customers at shopping malls over the years and the industry had to come up with better products and ideas to stop them. Boomgate System’s double interlocking barrier system was the answer. The Systems Rapid Barrier combined with the Scorpion Rapid Spike Barrier is an ideal solution as the two barriers create an interlocking system that makes tailgating impossible. Boomgate Systems has also started installing LED lights on the boom arm and the cabinets.
